Jean barrett
herding clinics
I am scheduled to go to Flying Bucket Farm for a couple of clinics in 2024.
** April 28
** August 3 & 4
** September 14 & 15
These are geared towards those dogs and their handler's that have never have had training or lessons on livestock to more advanced teams. The Clinics will offer lectures, demonstrations and hands on work with sheep & cattle (when available).
Interested teams may sign up for either a morning or afternoon session. - 9am to 12 pm OR 1pm to 4pm. $80 for a working spot. You are also welcomed to attend and work your dog in both sessions for $150
If you would like to come and observe to see what herding is all about - $25.
ABOUT JEAN:
My training style could be summed up easily….I strive to train towards a natural working dog that knows its job and to do that job with very little input from their handler. I strive to encourage a working relationship between owner and dog so that they may accomplish great work.
I am here to help start your herding journey.
Being a stockdog trainer for over 23 years has helped me develop my skills to train and teach people to excel in working livestock. I have helped many different dog breeds including –Australian Kelpies, Belgians, Schnauzers, Bouviers, Briards, Corgis, Rottweilers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs, Bearded Collies, Rough Collies and many others - as well as my own breeds – Australian Shepherds and Border Collies.
I have learned to develop and break down what the dog and handler needs to know into small easily learned exercises.
Through the years, Jean and her dogs have won over 150 awards in stockdog competitions on cattle, sheep & ducks. From AKC, ASCA, AHBA herding competitions, Jean’s dogs have won High and Reserve High In Trials, three asca Working Trial Champions, akc Herding Champion, High Scoring Dog Awards, Most Promising Started Awards and have entered the ASCA Nationals Finals competition where the highest ranking dogs are invited to compete against dogs from North & South America and Europe! Jean’s Border Collies have acquired Novice Champion at the Bluegrass Classic and placements in Open Division as well.
