What age can we start a puppy at? Usually a pup can be introduced to stock around 3-4 months old. But real training will not occur until the pup is about 8 months old. If you are really looking to start herding - don't wait - ask Jean if you can train with one of her dogs until your pup is ready!
My dog is not very obedient, can we still come for lessons? Yes! Herding training will work on obedience responsiveness. Your dog will improve his obedience as your herding lessons progress.
My dog is afraid of other dogs or animals, can we try herding? Yes, herding works on building confidence. Herding is not dog social hour. Handlers are not encouraged to have dog to dog interactions.
I compete with my dog in other dog sports, will herding interfere with them? Not to my knowledge. Herding helps improve confidence, distance work, responsiveness and partnership skills. All of these will certainly have benefit for your other dog sports you train in.
